Speaking at the mineral auction held in Manyara, Regional Commissioner (RC) Joel Bendera said the auction was conducted in a transparent manner involving both the local and foreign dealers.
He applauded the auction as having enabled the government to have fetched the royalties as well as having prevented the precious mineral from crossing the borders to deny the government revenues for national development.
RC Bendera also took the opportunity to allay security fears among the tanzanite miners, saying the government had gone extra mile in ensuring security and safety at their working places.
However, he asked the miners and dealers to strictly abide with the rules and procedures in drilling and marketing tanzanite for the benefit of the people.
The Permanent Secretary in charge of Mining and Minerals at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Professor James Mdoe said the government would improve business environment to provide a wider room for tanzanite dealers.
Dealer Shuhbhai Faisal, director of the Tanzanite One Company commended the government for introducing a procedural mechanism that improved the tanzanite business environment, saying; “we now operate more efficiently than in the past.”
He hailed the auction as a means to trap in hostile businessmen who would use the legal loopholes to evade taxes in the past.
