The police mounted a manhunt for the group in connection with an armed robbery incident in Kiboriloni area on the outskirts of Moshi municipality recently, where prominent trader Clemency Mbowe was robbed of Sh10m in his shop, shot and killed.
The police arrested five suspected bandits from Moshi and Rombo districts, for involving in a series of robbery incidents in the region.
Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander (RPC), Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Wilbroad Mutafungwa confirmed the incident saying the suspects were being interrogated.
“They confirmed to have been involved in various robbery incidents including the one that occurred at Kiboriloni area on July 22,” he said.
The police had in previous days arrested Lightness Kweka alias ‘Manka’ in connection with the armed robbery that led to the death of Clemency Mbowe.
Lightness, a shop keeper at the late Mbowe’s shop confesses to have been involved in the robbery in collaboration with her fiancĂ© Emmanuel Ngowi (42), a resident of Karanga, Moshi.
The police said Ngowi was found to be hiding at Mang’ola area, Karatu district, in Arusha region where he was arrested with Msoke.
Other suspects according to police are Frank Sifael Mushi (32), taxi driver at Majengo area in the municipality who drove the suspects to the scene in a taxi with registration number T 863 ADJ.
The RPC said a search showed Emmanuel Ngowi to be in possession a Rifle Mark 4 hidden at his farm in Karanga area.
